Asker: Rural haven by the sea
Asker is located in a quiet rural area, yet only a 20-minute drive from the Oslo city centre. Enjoy the close proximity to the sea and stroll along the coastal heritage trail to the picturesque Konglungen and Vollen.
Experience beautiful, winding roads along the Oslofjord and Drammensfjord. Stop at Villa Malla – a real lunch gem surrounded by a sandy beach and palm trees. Along the way, you'll probably pass lots of motorcycle enthusiasts, as the beautiful road with panoramic sea views is popular with those on two wheels.
Hurum is known as the 'new Asker', so we recommend taking the route through beautiful Hurumlandet. Here you'll find plenty of boating activity, beaches and lots of great stops for ice cream and coffee. The coastal gems of Vollen, Sætre and Holmsbu are highly recommended.
There is also plenty of beautiful nature in the area, including good fishing spots and stunning viewpoints that are the perfect destinations for outdoor recreation enthusiasts. A visit to Bærums Verk, the climbing centre in Holmen, bowling alleys and visitor farms are some of the numerous activities you can enjoy in the area.

Hallingdal: The heart of the Norwegian mountains
From Oslo, it usually takes around three hours by car to Ål in Hallingdal, but we suggest a more picturesque – and somewhat longer – route. Take the E134 and enjoy a nine-hour road trip from Asker that includes such places as Vrådal, Dalen, Rauland and Tunhovd before arriving at Thon Hotel Hallingdal.
A great starting point for all kinds of outdoor experiences in scenic Hallingdal. Thon Hotel Hallingdal is located in the centre of Ål, close to the cultural centre, museum, ski resort and train station.

Psst, want to split the trip into two days?
Staying at a hotel after a night in a tent always feels like pure luxury. The 'freedom to roam' law means that you can set up a tent or sleep under the stars just about anywhere in the wilderness, as long as you are at least 150 metres from the nearest inhabited house or cabin.
Skeikampen: A true mountain adventure
It was the fresh air and opportunity for physical activity that attracted guests to this high mountain destination in the late 1800s. At the time, Norway’s first high mountain tourist hotel was located at Skeikampen.
The varied terrain of this destination is well suited for recreation of all kinds and we've put together a list of favourite activities for both visitors and locals during the summer months.
